Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sergio Lucia is proudly inaugurating two newly constructed student experiments for the Laboratory of Process Automation Systems.

The two double tank systems extend and modernize our teaching portfolio for students from the BCI faculty and A&R. The experiments will be used starting in January 2022.

Double tank experiment

In the experiment two tanks are connected through valves and filled from a pump creating a circular flow. As a typical example from process industry, these tanks are required to hold a certain liquid level which can be controlled with a proportional valve. The setup thus illustrates a typical control example that is studied in theory in courses like PuR/IPD. Experimenting with this setup in practice allows for greater understanding of control theoretical approaches and their importance for real world applications.

State-of-the-art

When constructing the new experiments, special focus was put on having a modern interface, remote access and state-of-the-art control and sensing hardware. Working with the new lab is engaging for both educators and students and prepares students for up-to-date industrial practices.
